About Jia Han's comments in the earlier post, I think life is a wider subject. In life there are many obstacles and sufferings that one must overcome to become a man and National Service is one. Why do we prolong our suffering instead of leaving it as it is. Many think that joining NCC will help you pass your NAPFA, and getting a gold or silver for NAPFA can shorten your NS but instead they are prolonging it by 5 years! Life is long but the issue of NS & NCC is short. There are many great things about life and not much about NS & NCC. Why try out something you will do in 5 years time when you can learn many other stuff in other CCAs like canoeing, scouting, doing sports, programming, etc. Life is not just about surviving NS, it's about constantly learning new things and trying out stuff.
